EDENVALE VS KIRKFIELD UNITED

Kirkfield line up today without the ever present Greg Mclean, who is replaced by Gavin Alexander, and Dylan Burnside dropped to the bench to be replaced by Graham Brown.

The first ten minutes of the match is mainly played in the Edenvale half and Kirkfield get their reward in the 12th minute when a fantastic through ball from Fergus Hamilton Blackett is calmly slotted into the net by the clubs top scorer Stuart Torrance who claims his 15th goal of the campaign.

ONE NIL

On 15 mins Jamie Smith beats 3 Edenvale players and smacks the bar with a fierce shot from 22 yards.

At this point Kirkfield are in complete control of the game with midfielder Jamie Smith having his best game in the Kirkfield colours.

Numerous chances are created with Scott Bain, Darren Jamieson and Graham Brown all going close and Jamie Smith bringing out a fantastic save from the talented Edenvale keeper, who had to look lively to turn his fierce shot onto his left hand post and out for a corner.

The resulting corner gave us goal number 2. Scott Bain’s wicked corner is met by Graham Brown who’s header is pushed onto the post by the keeper. The ball falls kindly for Gavin Alexander who volleys home from 8 yards.

TWO NIL

The half time whistle sounds and the only surprise is that it is just 2 nil.

The second half sees the introduction of keeper Calum Roden, who replaces Andrew Allen

Almost immediately the second half starts, Kirkfield extend their lead. The hugely talented Scott Bain threads a fantastic through ball to Fergus Hamilton Blackett who makes no mistake from 12 yards.

THREE NIL

The second half continues in much the same way as the first with the lads being marshalled well at the back by full backs Connor Morrison and Martin Wishart, with the emphasis being on a passing attacking game.

After 48 minutes Scott Martin almost gets his name on the scoresheet when he whacks the bar from a Scott Bain corner.

This merely delays goal number 4 for a further 2 minutes when Stuart Torrance picks up a brilliant pass from Martin Wishart to smash the ball into the roof of the net for his second of the match.

FOUR NIL

The energetic Fergus Hamilton Blackett is replaced by Steven Lockhart

Kirkfield continue to press forward and in the 53rd minute Darren Jamieson hits the side netting after great work by Jamie Smith. Darren’s luck quickly changes when he hammers in a 16yard drive to make it 5 nil giving him his 4th goal of the season.

FIVE NIL

The game continues to be played mainly in Edenvale’s half however Calum Roden had to look lively when he spectacularly saved a great drive from Edenvale’s number 8 to keep Kirkfield’s goal intact.

Scott Bain’s day ended in a sour note when he had to be replaced by Ross Leggate after taking a crunching blow to his left leg.

As the game headed to its conclusion Dylan Burnside almost made it 6 with a spectacular overhead kick that crashes off the woodwork.

All in all a fantastic display that keeps the boys firmly in touch at the top of the league
